The Kallandi Bitipara Jame Masjid project stands as a testament to our commitment to creating architecture that not only serves its functional purpose but also enriches the community’s cultural and spiritual life.

 

Located near Dhaka city, in a rapidly growing residential area, the Kallandi Bitipara Jame Masjid project presented us with an opportunity to rethink traditional mosque architecture. Initially planned as a five-storied structure by the client, our detailed contextual study led us to propose a more sustainable and context-sensitive design. We envisioned a two-storied mosque with the potential use of the roof for additional prayer space.

 

Our design leverages the site’s natural elements and cultural context. A key feature is the pond on the west side of the site, which the client initially intended to fill. Instead, we incorporated this water body into our design as a serene ablution facility, enhancing the spiritual experience.

 

To create the illusion of a taller structure while maintaining a two-story building, we designed a high perforated façade. This not only provides effective air circulation but also contributes to the visual grandeur of the mosque, making it appear as a three to four-storied structure.

Perforated High Façade: The façade’s height and perforation are strategically designed for ventilation and aesthetic appeal, giving the building a dynamic visual profile.

The essence of Mihrab: Mosques are developing vertically because of land shortage, So the presence of the Imam is absent on every floor. We extended the mihrab vertically to multiple floors to create An essence of Imam. This design allows every floor to have a clear focal point of Mihrab for prayer, enhancing both the functionality and spiritual ambience.

Rooftop Facilities: The rooftop is designed as a convertible area which can be used for prayer or any other community use and includes a library, providing the community with a space for both spiritual and intellectual engagement.

Natural Lighting: The existing circular punch in the building was creatively utilized to welcome natural light, which animates the interior with shadows that change throughout the day, adding a dynamic element to the prayer experience.

Islamic Calligraphy and Patterns: The façades are adorned with calligraphic patterns inspired by Arabic alphabets and the five pillars of Islam. The abstract form of “Allah is the Greatest” (Allahu Akbar) is subtly integrated into the west façade, and Kalima on the other Three Facade creates a symbolic and aesthetically pleasing element.

 

The renovation of Kallandi Bitipara Jame Masjid by Chinta Sthapatya exemplifies our approach to modern Islamic architecture. By merging innovative design with traditional elements, we have created a mosque that is both functional and spiritually inspiring. This project not only enhances the spiritual experience but also serves as a landmark in the rapidly evolving urban landscape near Dhaka city.
